The ability to depict an object literally doesn’t make you an artist. No one ever claimed that the faithful duplication of nature (an impossible rask anyway) produces art. But the ability to draw things as you see them is the first step toward becoming an artist. (”How to draw what u see (Practical Art Books)” Rudy De Reyna)
Drawing has taught me many things among, which the fact that a person is a complex being that holds inside many treasures. Some of them are very well hidden, so deeply that, when they come out, they surprise everybody. My friends keep asking me how come an economist as myself, one who is so down to earth, who has such a concrete way of thinking, can be so sensitive as to draw. I would say that every person is a Pandora’s Box filled with mysteries and that we all should search inside, find our talents and passions and develop them, for in them we will find extreme joy.
I started drawing a few years ago and it has soon become a way to detach myself from all the chaos of the modern life. All of a sudden, the world started revealing itself to me as a combination of light and shades. No matter what, where there is a shadow there is also light. For me it is an optimistic way to see and understand life. I have also become interested in being better and better every day as I am constantly trying out new techniques, new types of paper and pencils. Some of them make perfect matches, they get along like best friends, while others refuse to communicate so as to lead to a good drawing.
I am happy with what my box offered me, and my friends’ reactions, when seeing my new drawings, has become the best reward for my work.
